SNL Tops Nielsen Social Content Ratings for the Week

By Steve Safran

Dave Chapelle and the Saturday Night Live crew led this past week’s Nielsen Social Content Ratings. Chappelle hosted the show, the first since the election. It was controversial – NBC’s Raleigh affiliate, WRAL, silenced Chappelle’s monologue nine times, citing his use of two of the 10 specific words they don’t allow on-air, according to Variety.

The show’s cold open was also highly noted on Twitter. It featured Kate McKinnon. dressed as Hillary Clinton, singing “Hallelujah.” It was a mournful tribute to the song’s writer, the late Leonard Cohen, who died last week. It was also a nod to the end of Hillary Clinton’s campaign for the presidency.

Of course, Election Night saw a lot of social interactions. Fox, CNN, NBC, and MSNBC’s coverage all made the top ten.
