MediaMall Technologies recently announced an updated version of MyMedia for Roku that will give users the ability to stream personal media to their TVs via Roku and the MyMedia channel in a Chromecast-like fashion.

The upgrade includes support for streaming high definition personal media files for free as well as an optional upgrade to include webcasting. The in-channel upgrade costs $4.99.

“MyMedia is a fantastic, extremely low-cost solution for Roku users that want to stream personal media files like videos, pictures and music, as well as web videos that may not be readily available on an existing Roku channel,” said Jeff Lawrence, CEO, MediaMall Technologies. “MyMedia is easy-to-use, can be set up in less than five minutes, and at a price of only $5 for the casting capability, it is a steal for Roku users.”

For $4.99, this is a must-have upgrade for Roku users that want to cast videos to their TVs. It’s surprising, though, that with the increased competition from Google and Amazon, Roku hasn’t released a (free) native platform or cloud storage service to allow its users to cast or stream videos.
