Roku Declares ‘National Streaming Day’

By Jordan Chariton

In honor of its sixth anniversary, Saratoga, California Mayor Emily Lo declared today “National Streaming Day” outside streaming-TV innovator Roku’s California headquarters.

The streaming-TV device, the first one to stream Netflix to TV boxes, has spawned many second screen advancements over the years, including similar products like Google Chromecast and Apple TV. Overall, about 42 million U.S. households have a TV connected to the Internet. Also, devices like Roku gave original, web-only streaming shows like Netflix’s “House of Cards” and “Orange Is the New Black” an important platform for viewing.

To commemorate National Streaming Day, Roku is inviting you to follow hashtag #NationalStreamingDay, and write in what you’re streaming today. At 8pmET, a random person who entered in their streaming selection will win a free Roku 3.
