‘Reliable Sources’ Talks Rise of Social TV

TV news has been draped recently with year-in-review panels covering the biggest news moments of the year, but CNN’s “Reliable Sources” also analyzed the rise of social TV on Sunday’s show.

“I think this is for Twitter a big part of its business moving forward,” Mashable’s Christina Warren said about social TV. “Whether it’s correct or not, they’ve been able to work with Nielsen and convince the networks that there is a correlation between discussion on Twitter about a TV show and ratings.”

Host Brian Stelter brought up one of the biggest social TV tweets of the year: Oreo’s power out tweet during the Super Bowl.

“Tweet of the year,” Warren said. “It was one of those great moments of capturing the Zeitgeist…Oreo was able to come in and dominate the conversation.”
