This weekend, Americans gathered round the television set just like they used to. First, for Bruce Jenner’s interview on ABC Friday night. Then, political junkies took to Twitter for the White House Correspondent’s Dinner.
If there was ever an example of Twitter being run “media” types, it’s the fact that the White House Correspondent’s Dinner, or #NerdProm as it’s called, made it to the top of the Nielsen Social ratings. There were 199,000 tweets last night about the dinner. Orphan Black, with its dedicated legions of fans, barely ranks with 14,000 tweets during its broadcast on BBC America. The dinner, broadcast on CNN, has become almost Oscar worthy. In fact, that’s all anyone could think about last night:
Obama for host of 2017 Oscars!! #WHCD

Why is CNN desperately covering the WHCD like it’s the fourth hour of E! at the Oscars? America. AMERICA. pic.twitter.com/d4NZuUGmVt

Has #WHCD become #SXSW or #Oscars of politics? Not every event needs a VIP after party(ies). #ThisTown
