Mr. Robot to Stream Exclusively on Amazon Prime

By Karen Fratti

Mr. Robot was a sleeper hit of the summer for USA and Amazon has snagged exclusive streaming rights for it. But you’re going to have to wait until spring if you missed it. Come early 2016, Prime members can watch and download the first season. It will also be available in the U.K., Germany, Austria and Japan. Frances Manfredi, president of NBCUniversal Television and new media distribution says that:

Mr. Robot is a tremendous success and Amazon Prime has provided a great opportunity to make the show even more accessible to audiences. We are pleased that Amazon recognizes the high quality of NBCUniversal’s content and is partnering with us in a network friendly way that allows viewers to watch the show when and where they want it.

While great original content is always a focus for VODs, buying the rights to popular shows is a big move. Hulu had the monopoly on Empire and milked that all summer in the lead up to the premiere.
