Yesterday, The Mindy Project was cancelled by Fox and fans freaked out. But even the star had a sense of humor about it:
Hey guys, I’m in Montana, is anything happening in LA? #themindyprojecthttps://t.co/hClsfHFXxW

The good news about a show like the Mindy Project, which has a strong social following, is that there are rumors flying about that Fox might be in talks with Hulu about doing another two seasons there.
Just woke up to the news that FOX has cancelled The Mindy Project omfg. My life is over. Danny will be forever stuck in India at that door.

FOX CANCELLED THE MINDY PROJECT IM GOING TO CANCEL MY LIFE — keesha maria (@keeshastoer) May 8, 2015
Back in the old days, fans had to rally around Kickstarters to get their favorite characters to reappear, or wait for an executive to realize that a revival on a platform like Hulu or Netflix would be worthwhile, like in the case of Arrested Development or Community.
The Mindy Project got cancelled BUT DON’T WORRY WE’VE STILL GOT PLENTY MORE “BONES” STORIES TO TELL — Marc Snetiker (@MarcSnetiker) May 7, 2015
If Fox uses its relationship with Hulu to make more Mindy episodes, it might be the smartest thing in television since DVR. You can make programming decisions based on where something is likely to succeed. Everyone’s watching The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix, but it’s possible it wouldn’t have done very well over at NBC, which originally passed it up. It’s possible.
Keep your Bones on primetime, move a show adored by millennials over to Hulu. Both remain relevant, current, and the sets of eyeballs on Fox products scale all over the place. And we’ll never have to wonder what happens next. Long live the quirky, 22 minute rom-com.
