Netflix’s new docu-series Making a Murderer is starting to buzz around social media. The show follows the very long, winding legal problems of Steven Avery, a Wisconsin man who was exonerated by the Innocence Project, and then charged with murder of another woman. It’s a little more like Serial than HBO’s The Jinx, in that it sheds light on some very bad practices by law enforcement (to say the least). The Jinx was compelling because Durst seemed guilty from the start. Making A Murderer isn’t like that.
It could be your new favorite show. And if it is, Netflix is going to have make a lot more like them. For 2016, Netflix plans on creating 31 scripted series, 30 children’s series, 10 feature films, and a handful of comedy and documentary specials.
For now, viewers are geeking out over the show, and the streaming network. Morale is good:
Netflix’s true-crime doc #MakingAMurderer should be required viewing. It’s absolutely riveting… and at the same time infuriating.
