‘Love,’ ‘Hate,’ ‘Happy,’ and ‘Crazy’: How Fans Reacted on Twitter to ‘The Bachelor’ Season 19 Finale

By Adam Flomenbaum

As ‘The Bachelor’ progresses throughout a season, the more emotional and opinionated viewers become.

Each Friday, we post insights from our analytics partner Canvs – the first completely syndicated qualitative social TV platform – but not many shows have driven as much of an emotional reaction (both in terms of volume and as a percentage of total tweets) as ‘The Bachelor’ Season 19 finale did this week. 113,937 of 357,208 tweets (Nielsen Social) were emotional reactions. 30% of the emotional reactions included the word “love” and 21% included “hate.” Chris’s pick was clearly divisive. The show’s top moment was when Chris ultimately chose Whitney – and fans were, for the most part, happy about that.

Below, additional analysis from Sheila Seles, Product Services and Marketing Lead at Canvs, followed by an infographic:

Though Chris clearly picked Whitney over Becca, the Twitter audience felt remarkably similarly about both women. Whitney inspired 21,756 reactions over the course of the finale: 37% expressed love, 13% hated something about Whitney, and 20% were happy for her. Becca inspired slightly fewer reactions at 17,772: 39% loved something about Becca, 14% hated her, and 9% said she was crazy. We’re eager to see how Twitter audiences feel about the next installment of The Bachelor franchise when two women become The Bachelorette this summer.
