Kentucky Derby on NBC to be most social horse racing event ever

NBC Sports proved its social chops with its coverage of the 2012 London Olympics. Now, looking to continue on its sports and social success, NBC is determined to give those tuning in to watch “the greatest two minutes in sports” an all-encompassing viewing experience. Here are some of the ways NBC plans to make today’s Kentucky Derby the most social one ever.

Twitter Mirror – NBC Sports and Twitter are partnering to have the “Twitter Mirror” on the Red Carpet at the Derby. Content from the “Twitter Mirror” will be featured on-air during Derby Day and “best-dressed” photos will be pushed out through the @NBCSN Twitter feed and featured on NBCSports.com.

Kentucky Derby “Social Center” –  The social center on NBCSports.com will give fans access to Kentucky Derby social media content from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram through the lens of horse racing experts, horses (including the horses themselves, jockeys and trainers), and a photo section. The social center will aggregate what’s trending around the Derby, and trending topics and photos will be featured on NBC’s Derby telecast.

Facebook “Derby 101”- Every day this past week at Facebook.com/NBCSports, fans were presented with a “Derby 101” shareable image to help them prepare for Derby Day. Fans can pick their winner with the “Choose the Winning Horse” Facebook poll. Voting results will be shown on-air during the Kentucky Derby telecast.

#DerbyHats- Those interested in Derby fashion can follow #DerbyHats to find the best headwear from the 2013 Kentucky Derby. Fans can submit pictures of their Derby hats from home using #DerbyHats and favorites will be featured on-air.
