Generally, when we write about The Weather Company, we write about its impressive digital reach or its first-rate reactions to weather-related disasters. Randi Stipes, vice president of client solutions at The Weather Company echoed this sentiment in describing how we generally consume weather-related news: “With the recent increase in severe weather events, it’s easy to seek out the hard news – the devastating effects or loss – associated with them, but we also hear heartwarming stories about everyday heroes who drop what they’re doing to help their neighbors or their community.”
It is for this reason that, in partnership with Chevrolet, of a new series, The Weather Company has launched “Hero Next Door, ” which profiles severe weather heroes who helped their communities through periods of disaster. The series includes six short-length episodes, with new episodes launching every two weeks through the end of the year. The first episode launched today.
While some of the episodes have been filmed already, Weather.com fans have the chance to nominate a local “Hero Next Door,” via a Facebook campaign. Fans may submit the hero’s name, a description of the heroic act, and a photo or video to Weather’s Facebook page, with the chance that the hero will be featured in one of the yet-to-be-filmed episodes. The deadline to submit a local hero nomination is October 31.
