Investigation Discovery Launches Companion Podcast for ‘The Mind of a Murderer’

Why choose between a murder-related podcast (‘Serial’) and a murder-related TV series (‘The Jinx’) when you can have both?

Investigation Discovery last week released its first-ever podcast as a companion to its new linear series ‘The Mind of a Murderer.’ In the show, Dr. Michelle Ward, a criminal psychologist and trial consultant, interviews murderers and attempts to dig deeper into the underlying psychological issues driving the committers of these heinous acts.

“Storytelling is the foundation that Investigation Discovery was built upon, and we are thrilled to now expand our expertise into the realm of podcasts,” said Henry Schleiff, Group President of Investigation Discovery, American Heroes Channel, Destination America, Discovery Life Channel and Discovery Family Channel. “Eliminating the visual component from the original series presents a gripping and spine-tingling experience: listeners will be hooked on every last word of the killer’s dark confession.”

As a companion to the TV series, the podcasts will explore Dr. Ward’s one-on-one interviews in more depth, as she provides commentary on her experiences and how she gets to the core of the mind of a killer.

With the success of ‘Serial’ and ‘The Jinx,’ a multiplatform experience that applies the best aspects of a linear procedural and a podcast makes perfect sense for ‘The Mind of a Murderer.’ With so many crime procedurals on TV, we will likely see this method continue to be copied.
