How the Tonys Played Out on Twitter

Last night’s Tony Awards on CBS had Twitter abuzz. According to Twitter, there were a few moments from the show that drove more conversation than others:

  • Fun Home wins best musical
  • Kelli O’Hara wins Leading Actress in a Musical for The King and I
  • Kelli O’Hara concludes her acceptance speech with a happy dance

Some of the most talked about people and musicals were:

  • Helen Mirren
  • Kelli O’Hara
  • Kristin Chenoweth
  • Fun Home
  • The King and I
  • Something Rotten!

Twitter also launched @TwitterStage last night. No, they won’t be selling tickets from now on, but it will be a a go-to account for anyone interested in Broadway. They’ll be, according to the official blog, “surfacing the best of performance-related conversation from the tweets people send each day – tweets about the plays, musicals, ballets, and other experiences where artists take the stage.” Last night it live-tweeted the awards and has about 1,700 followers.
