Heading Into the Finale, the Brands Most Associated with ‘Mad Men’

With ‘Mad Men’ coming to a close tonight, Amobee Brand Intelligence looked at which brands have most closely associated with the show since April.

Burger Chef tops the list, followed by IBM and McCann. Peggy won the Burger Chef account after Don stepped aside in the first half of Season 7.

Below, the top 15 brands most associated with Mad Men from April 1 through May 11:

  1. Burger Chef – The main account Don and Peggy were trying to win in the first half of season 7.
  2. IBM – The state of the art computer that symbolized the future of the agency in season 7.
  3. McCann– Roger sells Sterling Cooper to the real McCann agency in an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to keep control of his business.
  4. Hilton– A fictionalized Conrad Hilton was a key figure in Season 3 around a larger paid product placement deal between the show and hotel chain.
  5. Carousel– The season 1 pitch that all later Don Draper campaign pitches were judged against.
  6. Hershey’s– Don completely self destructs at the end of season 6, choosing the absolute worst moment, a pitch for the candy bar that was his childhood favorite, to actually try being honest about his past.
  7. Lucky Strike– The brand which still does exist, was first mentioned way back in the Mad Men pilot, and continued to figure heavily into the plot of the show through season 4. Cigarettes can no longer advertiser on TV, but Lucky Strike well, lucked into an earned loophole that didn’t cost them a cent.
  8. Peter Pan– Junior employee Mathis messes up a pitch with Peter Pan peanut butter and then loses his job ineptly trying to fix the problem during a recent episode.
  9. Banana Republic– In collaboration with Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant, Banana Republic released a clothing line inspired by the show.
  10. The Mets– Lane Pryce was a big fan of the team and after his suicide in season 5, his Mets pennant became a key reminder to Don of him.
  11. Sunkist– First coming to prominence on the show in season 6 around a conflict where the agency needed to decide if they wanted Sunkist or Ocean Spray, the brand also reappeared in season 7 when a depressed Teddy Chaough nearly intentionally crashed a plane with two Sunkist executives on it.
  12. Brooks Brothers – Sold suits inspired by the TV show.
  13. Disneyland – Around a trip to Disneyland at the end of season 4, Don decides to prepose to his secretary Megan.
  14. Avon– The account Joan landed with her brain in season 6; it continued to be her most important account through season 7.
  15. Jaguar– The account Joan didn’t land with her brain, Joan accepts an indecent proposal in season 5 with a Jaguar executive in order to win a partnership share in the agency.
