GetGlue updates iPhone app with more TV conversations

GetGlue launched a new version of their iPhone app this morning. The app has a nice new design organizing the check-in options into lists instead of the weirdly shaped four squares (no pun intended). The new conversations feature — which is explained in the below video by VP of Design Jason Gaylor — uses a “proprietary filtering methodology,” that “cuts through the noise and surfaces only the most relevant, fun, witty, interesting and engaging conversations about the entertainment content you care about – in real-time,” according to the release. They also now have friend leaderboards “for every show, movie, artist, book or topic,” encouraging competitions among GetGlue friends for who’s a bigger fan.

Additionally, brands are beginning to show interest in the platform that had 11.5 million check-ins in August. Clothing retailer Gap launched a major promotion with Entertainment Weekly on GetGlue in honor of the Fall TV season. EW made a list of their favorite fall TV shows and if you check-in to one of them you can unlock an impressive 40% off an item at the gap. Last week Lost Remote participated in the Online News Association’s sold-out social TV panel where GetGlue COO Fraser Kelton revealed there would be a “massive announcement with a major retailer” and even more interestingly a “massive release with a set-top box manufacturer” in their pipeline (see 1:13:38 in this video from the panel).
