‘Game of Thrones’ Season Four Premiere Stirs Social, Show Renewed for Two More Seasons

The fantasy tale’s premiere drew 6.6 million viewers–the biggest audience for HBO since “The Sopranos” series finale–and came in number three on Nielsen Social’s Twitter Ratings for the week of March 31- April 6. The show had 300,000 tweets revolving around its premiere with 170,000 unique authors of those tweets.

The third-place ranking placed “GOT” behind only the Country Music Awards and the “How I Met Your Mother” series finale.

And great news for the series and social media: the show has been renewed for a fifth and sixth season, HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo announced yesterday. “’Game of Thrones’ is a phenomenon like no other,” Lombardo said. [Series creators] David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”

The show’s social accounts also spread the good news.
