Foursquare partners with NYTimes, Zagat

Fresh off a deal with Bravo TV, the local app Foursquare has inked two new partnerships. Tied to the Winter Olympics, the New York Times will offer recommendations for visitors in the Vancouver area based on Times‘ travel and entertainment coverage. People who check-in will win a NYT Olympic badge. And the Times said this deal is just the beginning. “We are looking into other ways we can work with Foursquare in New York and other markets to integrate our strong travel and entertainment content,” a spokesperson says.

As for Zagat, Foursquare will offer a “Foodie” badge that can be earned by checking into Zagat-rated restaurants. Zagat reviews will also be tied into the service.

Foursquare’s ability to ink these partnerships certainly goes a long way to grow the mobile service from the hipster crowd to the general smartphone public.
