NBC’s ‘The Voice” made history Tuesday night, for the first time allowing Twitter users to save a contestant from elimination, with Raleigh, N.C.’s Kat Robichaud staving off rejection thanks to an explosion of votes for her on Twitter.
Host Carson Daly opened the five minute “Instant Save” period on-air, and the show’s Twitter account tweeted:

Fans started feverishly tweeting, with 385,842 tweets between 9:53 and 9:58pmpmET, according to SocialGuide, with the highest coming at 9:54pmET with 109,478 Tweets per minute.
It is interesting to look back, and wonder how Twitter might have changed older elimination style reality shows like “Survivor” and “Road Rules”, as well as look forward to see how current and future reality shows utilize the second screen to evolve their format.
