Fact-checking the State of the Union speech

By Steve Safran

The New York Times deserves a second shout-out today, thanks to its great interactive that fact-checks the State of the Union in real time. The feature combines the full video and transcript of the speech along with Times fact-checking and reader reaction from around the Web. It’s a great piece of tech and journalism. For the reactions, the Times curated updates from Twitter, Facebook and The Caucus.

The Times is also running other database information, including: a searchable overlay of “who sat where”; a number of graphs that show which words presidents have used the most in their SOU speeches during the last 75 years; and a comparison of the number of times President Obama has used certain keywords since 2009 (this is on the front page, but may move).
