Facebook and Instagram Already Social TV Winners at Tonight’s Golden Globes

golden-globes-759First reported by Deadline Hollywood last week, Facebook and Facebook-owned Instagram have signed a deal with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association that will give Facebook a booth – called The Facebook Lounge –  on the red carpet at tonight’s Golden Globe Awards. In the booth, celebrities will be doing video Q&As that will be seeded out across the Golden Globes Facebook page, NBC’s page, and TODAY’s page.

Facebook has been increasing its presence at award shows, most notably at the Emmy Awards last year and then at Stand Up to Cancer – where it utilized its ‘Mentions Box.’ Still, tonight’s presence at the ‘Globes’ will be its biggest yet.

The social network’s coverage will extend beyond the red carpet, shifting from native Facebook pages to Instagram. Writes Deadline:

Actual winners of the Globes will be photographed backstage for Instagram by noted fashion photographer Ellen von Unwerth. Von Unwerth’s photos will be taken just as winners come off stage, and will be shared immediately to the Golden Globes Instagram account. Some images will be included in the show broadcast itself.

A big presence at the Golden Globes is just one example of how Facebook intends to be mentioned in the same conversation as Twitter when it comes to social TV.
