Exclusive: USA Network Teams Up with UN to Raise Awareness About Human Trafficking

By Adam Flomenbaum

BtvRN8OIQAA0fwVTomorrow marks the first ever United Nations ‘World Day Against Human Trafficking,’ and USA Network is teaming up with the UN to spread the message.  The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is focusing the campaign around giving hope back to the millions of victims worldwide of human trafficking. The UNODC, along with USA Network, is asking people to take a photo of themselves forming a hand heart – the internationally recognized gesture of love, care and friendship – and then share it across social media with the hashtag #IGiveHope.

While USA Network as a whole is getting involved, ‘Graceland’ particularly is leading the charge. The show has incorporated human trafficking storylines in seven episodes this season, and actors Daniel Sunjata and Serinda Swan have filmed special messages to raise awareness.

This is not the first time USA Network has put its weight (and social marketing efforts) behind a good social cause. In April, the network aired a 16-hour “No More Excuses” marathon of “SVU” episodes in partnership with show star Mariska Hargitay‘s Joyful Heart foundation. The episodes revolved around domestic violence, and show stars Mariska Hargitay, Ice T, Danny Pino and Kelly Giddish appeared for special messages raising awareness about domestic violence throughout the marathon.
