Comcast Blocks Sling TV Ads

By Karen Fratti

takebacktv slingOh, Comcast. This morning, Business Insider reported that Comcast-owned NBC stations have blocked the new ads for Sling TV. The ones where “old TV” representatives give wet willies to their customers.

It’s almost too silly to be true. NBC Universal confirmed that their owned and operated stations were not running the ads to Business Insider. And these ones are in big markets, like New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and Washington DC. Sling TV CEO Roger Lynch said in an official statement that:

Innovation benefits customers. Sling TV exists because we recognize the need for a new live TV model that’s simple…Comcast has a demonstrated history of shutting down ideas it doesn’t like or understand, predictably to its benefit and at the expense of consumers. This is why we aggressively fought Comcast’s merger with Time Warner Cable. Our argument? That this massive conglomerate would use its incredible market power in broadband to thwart live Internet video services like Sling TV. Comcast was denied this avenue. Unfortunately, it appears “Old TV” may grasp at any tactic in attempt to preserve the status quo.

Other networks, like ABC, Fox, and CBS are running the commercials, as are independently owned NBC affiliates. Maybe Comcast is just salty that their own pilot streaming service, Stream, doesn’t make any sense or sound very interesting to anyone who wants to cut a cord. Get a grip, Old TV.
