CES: Toshiba smart TVs to integrate Samba, close gap between linear TV and the web

By Natan Edelsburg

samba_logo5Last year at CES, Samba TV demonstrated its new platform, which automatically syncs with live TV shows, and serves as a recommendation engine for related online videos and other relevant shows. At CES 2014, Samba TV has announced that its technology will be integrated into Toshiba smart TVs. New Toshiba owners will be able to use their remotes, tablets, phones, or computers to browse apps, gain access to exclusive content, and share clips with friends via Facebook and Twitter via their TVs.

The integration will rely heavily on the internet to give TV viewers a great second screen experience, and Ashwin Navin, co-founder and CEO of Samba thinks this will soon become the norm: “The future of TV is the integration of the Web with live programming, and enabling people to connect with shows they love in new ways.”

Samba TV’s technology will be able identify related content and give viewers the ability to experience myriad applications via a TV, tablet, or phone.

“Enabling Multiscreen Interactive TV addresses consumers’ changing media consumption behaviors and Toshiba sits at the forefront of this innovation,” said Scott Ramirez, vice president of product marketing and development, Toshiba America Information Systems, Digital Products Division. “Our strategic relationship with Samba allows us to not only offer a seamless, interactive experience, but also bring additional content to our customers.”
