CES: Samsung and Fandango give you movie trailers, ticket purchasing ability

FANDANGO LOGOIn September 2013, Samsung integrated Fandango’s showtimes, ticketing, and movie trailers into its GALAXY Note 3 devices in an effort to bolster its own content recommendation service, ‘Here and Now.’

In the beginning of 2014, Samsung and Fandango will take this integration to the next level. At CES this week, Fandango and Samsung have announced an expanded partnership which will allow Fandango’s trailers to be embedded with ticket purchasing options, accessed by viewers via the Movies & TV Shows panel on Samsung smart TVs.

“We are delighted to partner with Samsung as they continue to push the boundaries and benefits of the Smart TV experience,” said Paul Yanover, Fandango President.  “Fandango will be aggregating high definition movie trailers so that consumers can gain instant access to the content they love while offering a simple way to purchase movie tickets in advance.”

The Movies & TV Shows panel is a video discovery and recommendation service part of Samsung smart TVs, and consumers watching Fandango trailers using this feature will be able to browse, discover, and watch trailers, purchasing tickets for the moves they want to see directly from their TVs.

Not only will consumers be looking for a movie to watch ‘now’ via Netflix or video on demand, but they will be utilizing their TVs to look for movies to attend in person later. It is not unthinkable that in the near future, linear TV advertisements will feature the same ‘buy-it-now’ capabilities using smart TV technology.
