BBC Makes Archives Available For Purchase, Download

By Karen Fratti

wolfhallThe BBC is making all of its archives available for download and purchase in the BBC store through its video player. All of BBC’s content is available — even the rarer plays and random content you can’t find anywhere else. BBC says it won’t affect any deals with Netflix or other VODs, this is just a way to ramp up monetizing its own content and serve its audience better. If anything, it’s a way to not compete with Netflix or Amazon. The BBC video player will direct users to the BBC store where you can purchase single episodes or series.

They’ve used some good copy writing to make sure that the purchase is more akin to buying a DVD, something diehards always did anyway, rather than a place to bingewatch Wolf Hall. Semantics, right? Either way, BBC fans can finally get their hands on all the Wednesday Plays. Geeks.
