Are You Ready for Shark Week?

shark-conservation-5-4The best week of the year is upon us: Shark Week. Discovery is upping their digital game this year by incorporating the new Meerkat embed functionalist to the on-air antics. Conal Byrne, svp of digital media for Discovery Communications, said in an official statement that:

Each year we challenge ourselves to find new ways to connect with our community of shark fin-atics and to reach new audiences, and Meerkat’s embeddable player is a great tool for us to do just that.We are thrilled to be partnering with Meerkat to offer Shark Week fans even more ways to engage with the most wonderful week of the year.

Discovery’s Meerkat embeds will be available on DLive, a recently launched destination for Discovery viewers. Meerkat will enable Discovery to offer content such as:

  • “Finbassador” shark experts – from photographers to educators and conservationists – sharing the inside stories on what it’s like to be a part of Shark Week
  • A live shark feeding from the National Aquarium in Baltimore
  • “Shark on the Street” Q&As, complete with viewer giveaways.

Just when you thought it was all about Periscope, Meerkat will probably enjoy another boost in popularity over the July 4th weekend. Sima Sistani, Vice President of Media at Meerkat says that:
