NBC's Ann Curry challenges Brian Williams to tweet

By Cory Bergman

NBC anchor Brian Williams has been on Twitter for over a year, but he has yet to send a tweet to his 55,000 or so followers. So this morning on the Today Show, Ann Curry asked him why he’s been silent. “Papa don’t tweet,” Williams replies. “I haven’t decided what to say.” To which Roker laughs, “YOU can’t decide what to say?”

So Ann Curry — who’s one of the most popular TV journalists on Twitter — challenged Williams to tweet through a little Twitter peer pressure. “I’m going to throw down the gauntlet,” she says, asking viewers to tweet #IfBrianTweets as social encouragement. With Williams’ new show Rock Center debuting on Monday, it’s a great way to drum up some social promotion. Here’s the video clip:

Today.com explains, “We’ll be keeping tabs on just how many of you join the conversation (and will retweet some of the best ones on our @todayshow account)! Brian, who also anchors ‘Nightly News’ hasn’t made any promises, but we think with your help we can get him to take the first step.” They’ve also compiled a Storify of some of the best #IfBrianTweets so far.
