Screen Shot 2014-05-19 at 11.52.28 PMAMC is entering a pivotal moment in its existence. Breaking Bad is over, Mad Men is coming to an end and The Walking Dead is still wildly popular, but no longer new. The network is eager to launch new hits and has begun to do so. To help bring their content to social TV AMC has become the first network to premiere a show on Tumblr. Very fittingly the show, “Halt and Catch Fire” is a drama set in the 80s as the personal computer is on the rise.

While the show doesn’t premiere on linear television until June 1st at 10/9c, the network has made the premiere episode available on it’s Tumblr and website starting today. Tumblr even held a premiere event at their NYC headquarters in NYC.

Entertainment Weekly’s Samantha Highfill spoke with Lee Brown, Tumblr’s Global Head of Brand Partnerships about the big launch:

“Tumblr is the biggest platform for social TV and destination for many of AMC’s most passionate fans,” Global Head of Brand Partnerships at Tumblr Lee Brown said. “We’re excited to welcome Halt and Catch Fire and the rest of AMC’s lineup to the home of fandoms through Tumblr integration on AMC.com and to offer this first look at Halt and Catch Fire to our community.”

While AMC is the first network to premiere a show on Tumblr, the platform has already been a popular destination for launching TV content. In November, Nickelodeon released the finale of “The Legend of Korra” on their popular Korra Nation Tumblr destination after fans reblogged a post over 20,000 times “unlocking” it.
