Lost Remote attended Comic-Con for the second time this year and was able to meet the talent and creators from arguable the best drama on television right now. A&E‘s Bates Motel had a huge presence at Comic-Con including a panel, press event and social media infused party with lines to get in around the block. Most of the cast was in town and available to answer questions about their own use of social media and what fan engagement means to them.
Infusing social media into their Comic-Con party:
Comic-Con’s broken up into two major parts of sleepless fan-fueled fun. During the day, attendees flock to the convention center for panels or hang out in San Diego’s nearby Gaslamp District for entertainment-sponsored cafe’s and events. At night, exclusive parties dominate the scene. Bates Motel not only put together a party that everyone wanted to get into but also made sure it was shareable on social throughout each part. From #hashtags by the bar, to their Twitter feed up on the screens talent and fans alike shared content throughout the night.
Bates Motel talent and creators on social media:
Max Thieriot (who plays Norman’s older brother) and creator Carlton Cuse are really the only two members with social media presences. This doesn’t mean that the rest don’t understand the importance of fan engagement and the role social TV plays in entertainment. We interviewed the cast and creators about fan engagement and social. Freddie Highmore (who plays Norman) and Olivia Cooke (who plays Emma) both have no plans in the near future to enter social media but definitely feel the pressure. Here’s what they all had to say (there are five videos in total that you can browse through in this embedded playlist).
