ABC News debuts political site with social stock market

By Cory Bergman

ABC News has rolled out OTUSPolitics.com (as in “Of the United States”) this morning, a dedicated politics site to cover the 2012 Presidential Campaign. At the top of the site is a ticker called a “Political Stock Market” — powered in part with data from the social TV startup Bluefin Labs — which shows how the candidates are “trending.” Explains ABC:

OTUS’ innovative Political Stock Market a real-time snapshot of social sentiment, trending, search and the collective assessment of our political experts combined to determine the current ‘value’ of each 2012 presidential contender. It’s political punditry with a sophisticated dash of social media – a new way to measure who’s up & who’s down in a tumultuous campaign.

ABC says it’s working with Bluefin Labs to analyze publicly available Facebook & Twitter comments, search, trending, and influencer data. The market is open 7am-7pm ET, Monday-Friday.
