ABC News App’s Big Traffic Bump

By Jordan Chariton

SHOWSHEET_ABC-News-Digital-logoWe reported on ABC News’ new app for iPhone and Android when it launched in October of last year, and since then traffic is booming.

Built on push alerts and a simultaneous watch and read feature, the app’s first month traffic numbers in November, 2013 were up 165% year-over-year, according to ComScore. Total mobile video views were up 87% year-over-year, according to Adobe SiteCatalyst 2013.

ABC News TV is also expanding on the app, with more live streaming of breaking news events and special events. Just recently, Nightline anchor Dan Harris’s State of the Union post-show live stream roundtable simulcasted on the ABC News app.

“The new ABC News phone apps provide an immediate, always-on news experience – with a strong emphasis on video and personalization,” SVP of ABC News Digital Joe Ruffolo tells Lost Remote.

The huge spike in traffic adds to the trend of an increased demand for television news companies to cater more content toward the second screen.

NBC News just came out with a new companion app to the new NBCNews.com. We’ll keep tabs on their traffic as the weeks progress.
