24 Million People, 76 Million Interactions: March Madness Was Best Ever on Facebook

By Adam Flomenbaum

With former NBA D-League Commissioner Dan Reed leading sports partnerships, Facebook continues to make major strides in its quest to become the social TV destination for real-time conversation.

Last night’s NCAA Championship game between Duke and Wisconsin was the most-talked-about ever on Facebook: more than four million people generated nine million posts, comments and likes on Facebook about the game. Overall, this year’s March Madness was also the most-talked-about ever: more than 24 million people generated 76 million posts, comments and likes globally between Selection Sunday (March 15) and Monday night’s Championship Game (April 6).

Just as Twitter’s ‘Tweets Per Minute,’ or, ‘TPM,’ has become a much reported-on statistic, Facebook has released ‘People Per Hour, or, ‘PPH,’ to measure engagement for top moments. The biggest moment during the Tournament was the final hour of last night’s game, which drove 1.3 million unique PPH (includes posting, commenting, and liking related content).
