Twitter's iOS Deal Open to All Apps Integration not exclusive to Apple

Apple’s iOS 5 software for iPhone, iPad, and iPod will use Twitter integration, the company announced an hour ago at its Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. On the other side of the country, at New York City’s Internet Week, Twitter president of global revenue Adam Bain elaborated on what the announcement means for Twitter, Apple, and Android. Bain’s comments were made at Federated Media’s Conversational Marketing Summit.

The integration, which Bain described as “at the system level,” allows consumers on an iOS 5 device to tweet directly from any app. Through a single sign-in, Twitter buttons will be available on Apple’s mobile photo, browser, and news apps. More importantly, the platform is open to any app developer to add “one-tap” Twitter integration into their iOS 5 apps.

Bain declined to comment on the financial terms of the deal. He said the integration benefits Apple because Twitter has taken a meaningful place in its users’ lives. Apple liked “the idea of open and free communication and it being ubiquitous,” Bain said. Twitter already has an integration plan with Google’s Android phone.
