Julian Duncan, CMO of the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars, is one inspirational guy. From the first moment we started talking, I was blown away by his humble and joyous demeanor. This is someone who grew up without many role models for where he is today and managed to play professional football and create his own roadmap to CMO just by being himself, funko pop addiction and all.
As the only African American CMO in the NFL, Julian shares with us his gratitude for all the mentors he’s had along the way and his devotion to helping others realize there are no limitations to what they can be. Throughout his career, he has stayed focused on applying his passion for sports in any way he could, which earned him roles at Nike and Under Armour working with folks like LeBron James, Cam Newton and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Today, as CMO of the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars, his role goes well beyond the football field. The Jacksonville Jaguars are his number #1 priority, but Julian is also responsible for how the Jags brand comes to life internationally as a part of their London offense. The Jaguars are committed to expanding the energy of the game, and they are the only franchise that has commited to play at least one “home game” every season in the UK. And that’s not all. Julian is also in the concert business by overseeing the brand marketing efforts around the Daily’s Place Amphitheater next door to the stadium, and is also spearheading a redevelopment project in Jacksonville by creating an entertainment district on the waterfront. In his spare time, Julian is diving deep into the world of AR/VR to bring more connected experiences to football fans in and out of the stadium.
Tune in to hear more from Julian on his incredible journey, how he uses culture as his career guide, how he keeps himself at the forefront of marketing and how he’s become the deadliest player at Taboo.
