Woot Sarcastically Sells $99 3G Nook

By Jason Boog

Amazon-owned daily deal site Woot has a $99 sale on refurbished 3G Nooks today–complete with a scathing editorial of Barnes & Noble’s future.

Here’s an excerpt: “And now our sweet and innocent Barnes & Noble franchises are under attack from all sides. Some evil, faceless corporation out of Seattle sells everything they sell and then some; and they do it online without having to pay for a brick and mortar storefront. Wal-Mart’s got ‘em beat by a landslide in terms of store locations. Having a billion stores goes a long way towards luring a publisher to do business with you, y’know. Other guys like Apple and Google have better technological capabilities so poor old B&N has a hard time breaking into any new digital stuff, too. Hemmed in from all sides.”

Amazon acquired Woot last July. The next day, the site sold nearly 5,000 $149 Kindles.
