Woody Harrelson Cast in The Hunger Games

Two-time Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson (pictured, via) will play Haymitch Abernathy in The Hunger Games movie adaptation.

Harrelson has acted in literary adaptations including 2007’s No Country for Old Men. Director Gary Ross described the role in the release: “Haymitch is such an unforgettable character: funny cranky outrageous, sarcastic, impatient, biting but ultimately kind.”

As of this writing, 1,582 Facebook users “like” this announcement. However, many readers preferred that House MD actor Hugh Laurie play the role.

In fact, the “Team Haymitch” fan page uses a profile picture containing Laurie’s face and one of Haymitch’s most memorable quotes, “Here’s some advice. Stay live.” What do you think of this casting choice?

By now, many of the adult roles have been cast for The Hunger Games including Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman and Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket. Author Suzanne Collins won’t play a role. She recently told USA Today: “It’s [set] in the future and to be in it would be alarming. I have no need to do a cameo.”
