Win a Chance to Share Your Memoir in Our Love & Heartbreak Contest

By Jason Boog

On February 14th, Smith Magazine will sponsor a Six-Word Memoir Story Love & Heartbreak Slam. To celebrate, we are hosting a six-word memoir contest, giving one GalleyCat reader a chance to join the reading in New York City.

Simply write your six-word memoir about love and heartbreak (for example: “Married by Elvis. Divorced by Friday”).  Then submit your six-word memoir on the GalleyCat Facebook page for a chance to win a chance to tell the backstory behind your six-word memoir onstage at Love & Heartbreak reading.

Submit your memoir today. In addition, five lucky writers will receive a free copy of the Six-Word Memoirs on Love & Heartbreak book. The contest ends on 11:00 p.m. on February 4th, 2011. You can buy tickets to the reading here. Complete rules and the event line-up follow below.

Here’s more the show’s line-up:
+ Deb Kogan (“Shutterbabe”)
+ Darin Strauss (“Half a Life”)
+ Rachel Sklar (Editor-at-Large, Mediaite.com)
+ Michele Carlo (“Fish Out Of Agua: My Life On Neither Side Of The (Subway) Tracks”)
+ Sara Barron (“People are Unappealing”)
+ Kimberly Kaye (“The Trouble With Poet” blog and forthcoming book, “Delicate F***ing Flower: Sweet Poems by Sour Girls”)
+ Michael Hearst of One Ring Zero will turn some Six-Word Memoirs into very short songs.

Here’s more about the interactive event: “Whether you’re spending the evening with that special someone or taking a stand against romance, come out for a night of six-word sagas that explore the complexities of the human heart. Presented by SMITH Magazine, the creators of the wildly popular Six-Word Memoir project, we’ll have a luscious line-up of writers and performers who will pour their hearts out, tell the backstories behind their Six-Word Memoirs and then invite you to share your own six words on love and heartbreak in an audience participation Six-World Slam.”
