Why Writers Should Use Instagram

By Jason Boog

At a Social Media Week panel discussion sponsored by Blogads last week, New York Times Magazine contributing writer  Clive Thompson explained how the photo sharing app Instagram had changed his life.

In the video embedded above, Thompson introduced the iPhone app and shared his personal photos. Instagram is a simple tool that can help writers escape the tunnel vision of mobile devices and see the world around them in a more artistic way.

The author offered more advice in a blog post: “there’s something weirdly hypnotic about following the lives of your friends through nothing but images. Given that Instagram’s user base is very international (for now, anyway), the most-popular page of photos is like a constellation of slices-‘o-life from around the globe. About half the people I’m following are total strangers in Russia, Korea and Argentina who take strikingly cool pictures.”
