Who is the Real Underdog in the David & Goliath Story?

By Maryann Yin

Author Malcolm Gladwell gave a TED Talk called “The unheard story of David and Goliath.”

During this presentation, Gladwell shares his own retelling of the classic biblical legend. We’ve embedded the video above–what’s your favorite underdog story?

Little, Brown released his latest book, David & Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits and the Art of Battling Giants, last week on October 1st.

In an interview with the TED Blog, Gladwell gave his thoughts on the appeal behind these types of tales:

Because it makes the world seem just. If the strongest win all the battles, there’s no hope for the rest of us, is there? If the same people who have all the power and all the money and all the authority are also going to win every contest, what’s the point of going on for the rest of us? So the underdog story gives all of us who are not on top hope.

In the past, Gladwell has also given TED talks about spaghetti sauce and World War II bombing technology.
