Wattpad Seeks Submissions in Writing Contest

By Dianna Dilworth

Digital storytelling platform Wattpad has kicked off the 2016 edition of its online writing contest: The Wattys.

Wattpad community members are called to submit their work, which will be read and judged by the community’s readers. Wattpad writers can submit by uploading a story and then tagging it with the hashtag #Wattys2016, and then sharing it on social media with the same hashtag.

Last year, the site counted more than 75,000 entries, and this year, the company expects even more. The site is accepting submissions in 22 languages this year. In addition, the company has introduced two new award categories: Visual Storytelling and Trailblazers. Visual Storytelling will look for writers that make use of the site’s new multimedia feature. Trailblazers “recognizes the genre-bending skills of Wattpad writers.”

Submissions are open until August 31, 2016. Winners will be announced in the Fall.
