Waterstones Launches the ‘Buy Books for Syria’ Campaign

Buy Books for Syria (GalleyCat)Waterstones has partnered with a group of U.K.-based authors and publishers for the ‘Buy Books for Syria’ campaign. The bookseller has rounded up a selection of popular books; the profits that come from the sale of each one of these titles will be donated to Oxfam’s Syria crisis appeal.

According to the bookshop’s blog post, this venture was launched on Oct. 1. The participants hope to generate one million pounds (approximately $1.5 million USD). The New York Times reports that all the books being featured in this program “will bear a ‘Buy Books for Syria’ label.”

Some of the titles include The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie, and Wolf Hall by Hilary MantelGaiman confirmed with a Facebook announcement that he “will not see a penny of what you pay.
