Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 200 (GalleyCat)Warner Bros. Pictures announced plans to shoot a new movie about Willy Wonka. The Guardian reports that Roald Dahl created this character and featured him in two children’s books: Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (1964) and Charlie & The Great Glass Elevator (1972).

The first book served as the inspiration for two film adaptations. The 1971 movie, which is arguably the more popular one, starred the late Gene Wilder as the famed candy maker.

Here’s more from The Hollywood Reporter: “The studio has acquired the rights to the Willy Wonka IP from the Roald Dahl estate and is planning on a new film about the eccentric chocolatier. Producer David Heyman, who recently worked with the studio on the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, will be the driving force behind the project. Michael Siegel — the manager of the Dahl estate — also will produce, with Kevin McCormick executive producing.” (via Variety)
