Vintage UK Spiffs Up the Classics

A reader named Thomas who blogs about book cover design at Première de Couverture read one of our posts about book jacket focus group sessions and alerted us to his recent post about the relaunch of Vintage Classics, which Sarah had alluded to back in May. He shows off the first sixteen covers (of which I’ve picked out three) and deems them “a pretty attractive lot,” but worries that these British editions might not make the transatlantic journey to his Canadian bookstore. “We Canadians very often have American editions of British books imposed on us by publishers, either due to rights restrictions or to thriftiness (it’s cheaper to import from the US),” Thomas explains. “When asked about the Canadian availability of these new Vintage Classics last month, my Random House rep replied: ‘They’re relaunching Vintage Classics?'” Oh dear.
