A conference at the University of Hertfordshire this month aims to tackle one of publishing’s biggest mysteries in recent memory: What is it about vampires?
The conference, Open Graves, Open Minds: Vampires and the Undead in Modern Culture, runs on April 16 and 17 at the UK campus, and will feature lectures such as “Coming of Age in Vampire Fiction. The Maturation of a Sub-Genre” and “‘You are the most dangerous creature I’ve ever met.’: Female Sexuality as Monstrous in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Series.” Frankly, this sounds awesome.
According to The Guardian, Dr. Sam George, the professor who planned the conference, will also be starting a master’s degree in Vampire Literature this fall at the University of Hertfordshire. It’s not hard to imagine the reading list.
