It’s been 100 years since Mark Twain actually died (as we all recall, earlier reports of his death were greatly exaggerated) and there are a number of ways to commemorate the occasion today.

The Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford, CT is holding a seance at 7:30 pm. Twain lived in the house for 15 years and completed all of his most famous works there. And in Hannibal, MO, where Twain grew up, a ceremonial time capsule will be buried in his honor.

The seance in Hartford will be conducted by Todd Robbins, an illusionist, and a special house-shaped cake will be served. Later in the evening, ghost hunter Lorraine Warren will lead a ghost tour.

Twain was into this kind of stuff when he was alive, but it makes you wonder: How will the 100th anniversary of Salinger’s death be commemorated? And Updike? Or what about Kurt Vonnegut? (Actually, that one’s easy: With a pack of Parliaments.)
