For the history buffs and Black American memoir-lovers, I’ve chosen Turbulence Before Takeoff (Cable Publishing) as my featured book of color for the day.

This biography shares the life and times of an aviation pioneer known as Marlon Dewitt Green and is written by author, Flint Whitlock.

Marlon DeWitt Green is one of those little known names that quietly changed America without much fanfare. Yet, over 50 years ago, Green, who was a black Air Force pilot, fought to be hired by the all white airlines. Continental Airlines at that time did whatever they could to keep him out but after a 1963 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, everything changed. Green opened the doors for many other minority pilots to realize their dreams.

Author Flint Whitlock is a Pulitzer-nominated author who painstakingly researched every detail of these little known but important American story.
