TLDR: Learning from the 5 Most Overused Expressions On The Internet

By Jason Boog

Over the weekend, Jezebel unveiled “The 5 Most Overused Expressions On The Internet,” sparking more than a thousand comments. We’re sure you’ll have more phrases to add to this short list–share them in the comments.

Check out the complete list here, but this GalleyCat editor cheered the number two: TLDR or “Too long; didn’t read.” This expression should make every writer in the audience cringe; it’s the ultimate dismissive knee-jerk response online. It also serves as a constant reminder: in this sea of content, every single word counts.

Even if we manage to scrub the phrase out of the Internet, the website TLDR Project actually designed an interface to help readers navigate large conversations online. Watch the interface in action in the video embedded above.
