Three months ago, we told you about the tragic suicide of poet, novelist, and literary critic Thomas M. Disch. Last weekend, friends and literary colleagues gathered in New York City to pay respect to Disch’s memory, including former Playboy fiction editor Alice Turner (who hosted the gathering), Asimov’s Science Fiction editor Sheila Williams, and author Samuel R. Delany. In addition to his family, other guests (as recorded by Scott Edelman) included outgoing National Endowment for the Arts chair Dana Gioia, novelist John Crowley, and poet David Lehman—reflecting the breadth of Disch’s influence within more than one of America’s literary communities.

The photos come courtesy of Tachyon Publications publisher Jacob Weisman; Tachyon published Disch’s last novel, The Voice of God, earlier this year and recently followed that with a short story collection, The Wall of America.
