The Shortest Judith Regan Story Ever

By Neal

Inspired by yesterday’s revelation that everybody even remotely connected to publishing has a Judith Regan story to dine out on, one author wrote in to share the most tangential brush with the controversial publisher we’ve seen yet. “I sketched the proposal for a book to my then-agent over lunch at a now-closed bistro in the east mid-20s, and I said, ‘I’ve been told this is a Judith Regan book,'” she recalls. “He looked up from his cod and spinach and said, ‘No, you’re not interesting enough for her.'” Ouch!

“And if that doesn’t knock you over,” she quips, “when O.J. Simpson went to USC, my sister had a one-night stand with his roommate. Is there enough for a book here?” Well, we can think of at least one more Los Angeles-based publisher that might be willing to splurge on that proposal, heh heh…
