Peter Rabbit Coin (GalleyCat)Peter Rabbit, the beloved children’s books character, will appear on a special edition of the United Kingdom’s 50 pence piece. The Royal Mint has created a colored coin that features Beatrix Potter’s blue jacket-wearing bunny.

The Telegraph reports that Potter’s mischievous rabbit was first introduced to the world in The Tale of Peter Rabbit; this book was originally published in 1902. A non-colored version of the Peter Rabbit coin will be unleashed later this year.

Here’s more from The Guardian: “Three more of Potter’s characters will also be committed to currency later this year, as part of celebrations marking 150 years since the children’s author’s birth. The images have been created by coin designer Emma Noble, who said it was ‘amazing to be given the opportunity to work with such famous and treasured literary characters.'” (via BBC News)
